This book will always be remembered as my childhood favourite. All of the characters and monsters were enchanting. I even dressed up as Gandalf for 'Book Day' when I was little because of it, despite being a girl (the beard I made was incredibly itchy though).
I've also seen it performed on stage which was wonderful.
And now it's being made into a two part film. Will be following every development.
"All I had to decide was what to do with the time that is given me." - Ian McKellen on joining The Hobbit as Gandalf.
2012 is too far away! Is it bad that I'm sitting here in the beginning of 2011, already wishing for next year? (Just learned that the release date is expected to be December 2012 - that's almost two years away! Argh!)
On a similar note - do you think it adds or detracts from the film experience or 'magic' if you check out all the 'behind the scenes' and extras? I like to be able to appreciate how hard the crew and cast have worked to make the film, but then I'll find a picture of the set (say a building with nothing more than a front wall) and suddenly feel like I've seen too much...
What would you do if you had a magic ring that could turn you invisible? Bilbo used it to steal; I imagine most people would think of that first. He also used it as a cool party trick. Or you could pretend to be a ghost and really weird people out. Actually, I can only think of bad or deviant uses for such a power. Hide and seek champion? - Still, that's cheating.
Well, it was Sauron's ring after all.
Le hannon, namárië.
